Protesters Disrupt Jimoh Ibrahim at Energy Group's 5th GMD Conference

Jimoh Ibrahim at the event

Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, Group Managing Director (GMD) of Energy Group got a big surprise today at his ongoing 5th GMD conference where top executives of companies like NICON, Energy Bank of Ghana, Air Nigeria and others are meeting and being trained by the businessman. He claims to have over 8,000 employees in his companies.

However, during today's training session shown live on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), protesters from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) disrupted the session demanding that salaries be paid. They disrupted the session for about 15 minutes before some senior executives from Energy Group left the hall to negotiate with them.

Ibrahim, in his indirect response to the protest stated that the protesters: "are from the media and cannot generate their own salaries." He explained that the media workers expect him to take funds from some of his other companies to pay their salaries and he is not ready to do that.

Apparently, irked by the incident, Jimoh Ibrahim threatened to shutdown any of his companies that does not make a profit by December 2016.

He also promised to pay salaries of the workers of any of his companies that owes them provided that the Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director resign. If they don't, they are likely to be fired.

It will be interesting to see how this saga ends.
