Ojota is the touching ground for many first-time visitors to Lagos. The overwhelming majority of interstate buses pass through it with many having it as their final bus stop.
It is also a major park for buses heading out of Lagos. Hence, do not be surprised if motor park touts lift you and your belongings towards a bus of unknown destination if you drop at Ojota with what even remotely looks like a traveling bag especially if you are a lady! They can be that aggressive as they assume everybody stopping at Ojota with a bag is heading outside Lagos, it doesn't matter to them that you might be heading to the West while the bus they are loading is heading to the East. It is up to you to defend yourself- surprised? Don't be, welcome to Lagos!
Ojota is more than an interstate park though. It is a major hub for people heading to Ikorodu which has in the last 2 decades emerged as a city within the megacity called Lagos. It is also close to Alausa, the seat of Lagos State Government through Kudirat Abiola Way which is named after the slain wife of late billionaire businessman and acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election in Nigeria, MKO Abiola.
Strategically located on Ikorodu road which is the most busy road in Lagos, you can get buses heading to many parts of Lagos like Yaba, Oshodi, Ikeja, Obalende, CMS, Ajah, Epe even Apapa at Ojota.
The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is very active along this axis. Hence, Ojota is always busy with a crowd of people to be seen for almost 24 hours of the day.
It is also a market with all sorts of items sold ranging from books, clothing to foodstuff and chemicals.
For most Nigerian newcomers to Lagos, Ojota is an unforgettable bus stop because it is the first part of the City of Excellence their feet touched while some got dispossessed of their little belongings even before they got a chance to start life in the place they believed to be the land of unlimited opportunity with the proverbial milk and honey of course.
