FG Allegedly Gave N100 Million to Families of Chibok Girls

Who is the person that came up with this idea if this is true?

BBOG: Campaigners Condemn Alleged Cash Gift To Chibok Parents

The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaigners have taken a swipe at the Federal Government for allegedly giving 100 million naira to the families of the abducted school girls from Chibok community.

The group urged the Federal Government to confront the challenges before it, like other countries would do, rather than always believe that money would solve everything.

They also urged the Federal Government to treat the abduction of the girls with the required urgency and return them to their families rather than trying to silence their families with money.

The group which has been sitting out to protest the abduction of the girls vowed to continue to hold their protests until the girls are rescued.

A new controversy started when parents of the abducted girls alleged that they have been shortchanged by Chibok community leaders who received 100 million naira cash gift from the Presidency, on their behalf during their visit to the Presidential Villa for a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Although a presidential aide denied any such gift to Chibok parents, one parent, Mr Abdu Halidu, said that he got N200, 000 from the money and the parents of the missing girls have reportedly said that the amount shared to them was unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the leadership of Kibaku community an umbrella body for the Chibok community has denied claims that they collected money after the community’s meeting with President Jonathan.

Real Madrid Sign James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez is now a Madridista!

The Colombian midfielder signs for Real Madrid after winning the Golden Boot at the World Cup in Brazil.

Goals, assists, dribbling, speed, talent and versatility. James Rodríguez (Cúcuta, Colombia, 12-07-1991) embodies all of these things. Real Madrid's newest signing was one of the sensations during the last World Cup, in which he scored six times on his way to receiving the Golden Boot thanks to some truly memorable goals, including his work of art against Uruguay, which was chosen as the goal of the tournament on a FIFA.com poll.

He was his country's star man in Brazil, where he was the key behind Colombia reaching the quarter-finals in the competition for the first time ever. FIFA named him man-of-the-match in three of the five matches he played in. As well as scoring, James also provided two assists during the World Cup.

Having only just turned 23-years-old, he has already won the Europa League, doing so with Porto in 2011. Real Madrid have strengthened with the addition of a spectacular footballer, who although still being quite young, has plenty of experience under his belt having played in Argentina, Portugal and France. He is an attacking midfielder with extraordinary vision who is capable of playing as effectively out wide as he is in the centre of the pitch.

Germany on top of FIFA Rankings

Germany: World Champions Now Ranked No.1 in the World

Yay! Whilst Nigeria moves up 10 places to 34th in the world...

World champions Germany on top

Four-time world champions Germany are reaping the rewards of their triumph at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ in this edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. The World Cup Final against Argentina was also a duel for the leading position in the world ranking – with Joachim Low’s team coming out on top on both counts.

Germany lead the table for the first time in around 20 years, followed by Argentina and the Netherlands. The Oranje’s third-place finish at the World Cup has propelled them 12 positions up the table and back into the top ten. All of the teams that exited the World Cup in the quarter-finals have climbed up the ranking: Colombia (fourth, up four), Belgium (fifth, up six), France (tenth, up seven) and Costa Rica (16th, up 12 – the Ticos’ highest-ever ranking).

If the winners have gained, the less successful teams are left counting the cost of failure in their ranking positions. Former champions Spain have fallen from the top spot to eighth place, while Portugal (11th, down seven), Italy (14th, down five) and England (20th, down ten) have all dropped out of the top ten following their first-round exits. World Cup hosts Brazil, meanwhile, have dropped four places to seventh position.

Bamidele Aturu Dies Aged 49

Late Bamidele Aturu

Human Rights Lawyer Bamidele Aturu Dies At 49

This is a big loss to Nigeria...

Mr Aturu, known for his commitment to championing human rights and constitutionalism, died in a Lagos hospital on Wednesday evening after a brief illness.

Associates of the deceased confirmed his death.

The late lawyer was one of the founding members of a political group committed to pursuing deep-rooted democratic principles and holding those in power accountable to the governed – Democratic Alternative.

He came to prominence as a fighter against power abuses when, as a member of the National Youth Service Corps, he refused to shake the hand of a military administrator  of Niger State, Col. Lawan Gwadabe, in 1988 during his NYSC passing out parade declaring that the military had caused great harm to the democratic aspirations of Nigerians.

Mr Aturu studied law at the University of Ife, and devoted much of his legal practice to representing marginalised or oppressed individuals and groups.

He was nominated as a member of the ongoing national confab, but he renounced his membership, arguing that the conference was designed to achieve nothing.

Thiago Silva Says Zuniga is a Coward

Zuniga knees Neymar in the back thereby ruling him out of Brazil 2014

You cannot blame him for his sentiments, Zuniga's tackle means Brazil's most dangerous player, Neymar will miss today's semifinal between Brazil and Germany...

Thaigo: Zuniga is a coward

Brazil skipper Thiago Silva has expressed his anger at Colombia defender Juan Zuniga's tackle which left Neymar with a fractured vertebra.

FIFA ruled on Monday they would not be taking any further action against Zuniga for the challenge, a decision which has left many of the Samba Kings players angered.

"In my opinion it was a cowardly tackle," Thiago said at a press conference.

"I am a defender, I know how to mark a player and there is no way you can get the ball by putting a knee in the back.

"It is not something that comes about in a normal match situation."

Thiago will miss his side's semi-final against Germany on Tuesday due to a one-match ban picked up for an accumulation of yellow cards, the second of which came against Colombia when he impeded goalkeeper David Ospina while he was making a clearance.

"In no moment did I intend to take the ball from the goalkeeper. I was trying so hard not to commit any fouls, the only foul I remember was the yellow card and it is very difficult to miss the game," the Paris St-Germain player said of the incident.

"But I really trust the players on the pitch. No matter the 11 players we will be well represented."

Real Madrid Legend Alfredo di Stefano Dies

Alfredo di Stefano won 5 consecutive European Cups with Real Madrid

Real Madrid have announced the death of their legend, Alfredo di Stefano.

Real Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano dies, aged 88

Alfredo di Stefano, former Real Madrid player and one of the all-time greats of the game, has died aged 88.

The ex-Los Blancos forward, who played a key role in the side that won five consecutive European Cups in the 1950s, suffered cardiac arrest on Saturday afternoon in Madrid – the day after his birthday.

Medics spent more than 15 minutes giving him CPR shortly after lunchtime and he was transferred to Gregorio Marañon hospital in Madrid where he was in an induced coma.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had visited him in hospital and said he had been hopeful di Stefano would make a recovery. Messages of support from around the world had been pouring in wishing him well, while both Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini were in constant contact with the club to get updates on di Stefano’s health.

Perez had said the whole Madridista family had been moved by all the messages received. “We have seen an interest on his condition from all sectors of society, especially from the football world, where Di Stefano has a universal relevance,” a statement from Perez.

As well as firing Real Madrid to success in Europe, di Stefano also won eight La Liga titles, and scored more than 300 goals for the club. At international level he represented both his native Argentina, and his adopted country, Spain.

Everyone at realmadridnews.com sends the family and friends of Alfredo di Stefano our condolences at this sad time.

Obama Congratulates American Team After World Cup Exit

#ThingsTimHowardCouldSave Meme went viral after United States defeat to Belgium on Tuesday

Was Tim Howard that good against Belgium? I admit I was half-dozing throughout the game but I would rather blame Belgium for poor finishing rather than Tim Howard for shutting them out in normal time!

World Cup 2014: President Barack Obama calls United States stars Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard to congratulate side, and tells goalkeeper to 'shave off your beard'

How will Tim Howard avoid being mobbed by the adoring public upon his return to the United States after a starring World Cup performance led to him becoming the latest cult figure of the World Cup? “Shave your beard,” according to President Barack Obama.

The President of the United States called goalkeeper Howard and team captain Clint Dempsey to congratulate them on their efforts in Brazil, just a day after their extra-time defeat in the second round that saw Belgium clinch a 2-1 victory in Salvador.

In a video released by the White House, Obama said: “Clint, Tim. Man I just wanted to call to say you did us proud. You guys did great. There’s someone here who’s first sport was soccer although I was never that good.

“To see the way you guys captured the hearts and imaginations of the whole country is unbelievable and obviously the way the sport has been growing steadily because kids have been playing it at a young age, but this is the first time you have had an entire country focused.

“You guys did us all proud not just by how hard you played and how well you did; you guys just carried yourselves with a lot of class. It makes people really respect the sport and you guys are really great models for a lot of sportsman here in the states.

“I know it is disappointing but what you guys accomplished is really, really significant and it will make a difference to the country so congratulate coach. I know maybe you have got another couple of guys there.”

A great way to solve the problem of disposing old tyres

Old tyres become new chairs

If you are someone that actively takes part in cleaning his/her surroundings in Nigeria, you will know that disposing old tyres is a big problem -people just throw them wherever they like and they serve as repositories for stagnant water that mosquitoes breed in.

This idea of turning old tires into chairs is a great as a means of recycling which is environmentally friendly and could help to save many lives as well by reducing mosquito breeding-pools. We should adopt this because it solves many problems and is a potential source of income for many unemployed youths out there.
