New Study Shows That Testosterone Therapy Prevents Breast Cancers

A new clinical study by two physicians shows that testosterone or testosterone combined with an estrogen blocker prevents breast cancer.

DAYTON, Ohio -- When it comes to breast cancer, not all hormone therapies are equal. Research has shown, and the medical profession agrees that estrogen and progestin therapy increase the risk of breast cancer. But the impact of testosterone therapy on breast cancer is currently debated.

However, a clinical study by Dr. Rebecca Glaser (Dayton, Ohio) and Dr. Constantine Dimitrakakis (Athens, GR) recently published in Maturitas’, a well-established international journal, puts the debate to rest.

In essence, the study shows that testosterone, or testosterone with an estrogen blocker prevents breast cancer. In women who received therapy on a regular basis, there was
over a 3-fold reduction in the incidence of breast cancer.

“Testosterone is breast protective, but it is also the major building block for estrogen, which stimulates breast tissue and breast cancers,” says Glaser. “Identifying women who make too much estrogen from testosterone,
and blocking that from occurring is important.”

Glaser and Dimitrakakis have previously demonstrated that testosterone combined with the estrogen blocker anastrozole, delivered as a small implant placed under the skin, also safely relieves symptoms of hormone deficiency in breast cancer survivors.

The two physicians have conducted numerous clinical tests and reported on the benefits of testosterone therapy in women. And they havenow documented a reduced incidence of breast cancer in over 1200 women treated with testosterone, or testosterone with an estrogen blocker.

They are currently investigating the ability of this combination implant to treat breast cancer itself.

Clowns Kill Mexican Drug Lord at Children's Party

Gunmen disguised as clowns at a children's party shot the eldest brother of Mexico's once powerful Tijuana drug cartel family to death on Saturday.

Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix, 63, was gunned down at a family event Friday in Cabo San Lucas, special investigations prosecutor Isai Arias told reporters.

"He was hit by two bullets, one in the thorax and one in the head," Arias said, noting that relatives ID'd the former drug lord's body and there have been no arrests.

The gunmen were dressed as clowns when they shot Arellano Felix at the party in the luxury Casa Oceano tourist residence, agents close to the case said.

All this makes the Northampton Clown seem suddenly harmless.

The Arellano Felix brothers once dominated drug traffic between Mexico and California through the brutal Tijuana cartel, inspiring characters in the film Traffic.

Most of the Arellano Felix brothers have been either killed or arrested, leaving the cartel in tatters in the present day. Infighting also weakened the group.

The shocking clown murder is likely due to unpaid old debts, and old retributions from the height of the group's power between 1990-2000, experts say.

Nicknamed "El Menso" (The Dummy), Francisco Rafael was arrested in 1980 in San Diego for selling drugs, but slipped back to Mexico when he was released on bail.

In 2006, he was extradited to the United States and was sentenced to six years in prison after he confessed to selling drugs to an undercover agent.

In 2008 he was released, earning significant time off his sentence for good behavior, according to his attorney at the time, and repatriated to Mexico.

The Tijuana Cartel has been completely dismantled, with all of its leaders in prison either in the U.S. or in Mexico, according to drug officials.

Rivals like Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's Sinaloa Federation, which also began around 1990, have eclipsed the Tijuana group and taken over its territory.

The Sinaloa group, based in the western state of Sinaloa, is Mexico's biggest drug cartel, rivaled only by the Zetas, who are most active in northeastern Mexico.

Fire guts Warri refinery

The Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company, Delta State, was on Tuesday morning gutted by fire.
The cause of the fire, which started at about 11.00am was not immediately known.

Eyewitness said it started from one of the refining plants in the complex. The fire was still raging at the time of this report and Warri and its environ was engulfed in huge overcast of smoke pouring into the sky from the blazing inferno.

It was gathered that the management of the company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has sent SOS to the state fire service and companies that have private fire fighting equipment to join in the efforts to quell the inferno.

Stephen Keshi's Salary Has Not Been Paid Salary for 7 Months

NFF owes Keshi seven months’ salary

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) owes Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi, and members of his backroom staff seven months’ salaries, NFF President, Aminu Maigari, confirmed over the weekend.

Maigari claimed the delayed payments were due to the financial constraints the football body is facing in recent times.

“It is true that Keshi has not been paid for the past seven months but the hands of the federation are tied over this matter,” he said in a SuperSports report. “It’s not as if we are hoarding this money and have refused to pay him. The NFF is in dire straits as far as financial resources are concerned.

“We have even had to slash the winning bonus of players of the Super Eagles from $10,000 USD to $5,000 USD as a result.”

Maigari said the NFF has taken steps to alleviate Keshi’s financial situation by taking responsibility for his hotel bills and feeding.

“There are several steps taken by the NFF in this regard to make Keshi’s life easier,” he said. “The rent of the hotel in Abuja he lives in is paid by the NFF. His feeding is taken care of by the NFF as well. He has an official car provided by the NFF and we ensure that any expense he needs to meet as he carries out his official duties are met by the NFF.

“Let me also use this medium to inform Nigerians that other staff of the NFF have also not been paid for over a year but they have continued working without complaints because they know the constraints we are facing.”

Others affected by the NFF’s financial constraints include the General Secretary, Barrister Musa Ahmadu; Director of competitions, Mohammed Sanusi; Director technical, Emmanuel Ikpeme,  and the Director of finance.

According to Maigari, there are many more

“I am sure a lot of Nigerians do not know that even as the leader of the NFF, I have not received salaries for a single day so people should understand that we are selflessly serving the nation,” Maigari said.

The NFF president, however, insisted that the coaches would be paid their salaries as soon as “things improve.”

Keshi, who took the reins from Samson Siasia in November 2011, led the Nigeria national team to first place at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa, a feat that eluded Nigeria for 19 years. He is just a match away from qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Over 20 Tourists Rescued From Obudu Mountain Resort After Mudslide

Over 20 persons have been rescued from the mountain top of the Obudu Mountain resort in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State following a mudslide that occurred at the resort due to a three day heavy down pour.

The rescue operation was carried out by the Nigerian Air Force Augusta 109 from 305 Flying Training School Enugu, Super Puma, and Mi 24 helicopters from the base following directives by the Chief of Air Staff.

Eye witness accounts disclosed that the disaster happened at mid night following many hours of downpour.

Although no life was lost, the natural disaster swept through the local farms and destroyed farm produce. The villagers have now called for interventions from government and well-meaning Nigerians to avert hunger.

The Obudu Mountain resort has played host to millions of tourists across the world who have visited for both pleasure and business and also not forgetting the annual mountain race which takes place in November.

With less than two months to the mountain race, the villagers are worried and hopeful that this occurrence doesn’t disrupt the race.

The Cross River State government through its ministry of works has said it will not relent in ensuring that the road is cleared for free vehicular passage.

For now, all visitors to the resort have been evacuated pending when the disaster is corrected.
